Irregular Verbs

Happy Spring everybody!!

Do you know / remember the list of Irregular verbs??

Do you have a "system" of how you remember them or do you just learn them off by heart alphabetically?

I usually encourage students to find a way that's best for them, so if learning a list by heart is the best for you then that's fine, but why not try to group them by the form they take?

For example:
The ones that change completely (be, do, go, eat, see)
The ones that stay the same (bet, bid, cost, cut, hit, hurt, let, put, shut)
The ones that change -ew and then -own (blow, grow, fly, know, throw)
The ones that have a continued change in last vowel -i, -a, -u (begin, drink, ring, sing, swim)
The ones that change once in the past simple form and are the same in the past participle (bend, bring, build, burn, buy, catch etc.)
etc! The groups go on and on!

You can create whatever kind of groups you find most helpful. It's like learning vocabulary in themes (body parts, food, house/home, jobs, nationalities, etc)
Try it!
